BCHS students Haley Burden, Brittany Brooks and Lyndzie Pharris attended the Student Television Network (STN) camp in Kansas City July 26th – 31st. STN is an organization devoted to students interested in broadcasting and/or improving their communication skills. Students received training from professionals who work in the television, radio and print journalism industries. The primary focus is learning to, “Tell the Story” using audio and video. Students learned skills in videography, script writing, interviewing and editing techniques. Training sessions conducted throughout the week culminated in the “Big Shoot”. Students were paired up with other students from across the country and taken to the Country Club Plaza in downtown Kansas City. They were given 3 hours to find a story, conduct their interviews and shoot any necessary footage to complete the story. All three BCHS girls placed with Haley winning 1st place for her story, “The Segway Experience”. Lyndzie’s story, “Build Kansas City”, took second place while Brittany’s story, “Fear Takes Flight” placed third. Brittany also won first place for and editing assignment earlier in the week.
