"Class of Kentucky"
Congratulations to Madison Embry for being chosen Butler County High School’s Class of Kentucky representative. The program recognizes academically talented and community-oriented high school sophomores from throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is facilitated through the University of Kentucky. Class of Kentucky honors one top sophomore from each high school in the state.

Shelby Rose and Lauren Chism were selected to represent BCHS at GSP this summer.
Jordan Evans was selected for both GSP and GSA and will attend GSA this summer.

Congratulations to Brandy Day for being elected TSA State Reporter for next year. Haley Burden won 2nd Place for Imaging Technology while our two film teams took 4th Place each in On Demand Video and Film Technology. Also, congratulations to Haley as the outgoing TSA State President as she completed her term and did an outstanding job of conducting this year's state conference sessions and awards ceremony.
Science Olympiad

The Butler County High School Science Olympiad Team competed at Madisonville in the 2010 Regional Competition on Saturday, March 20th. Individual placing were as follows: Taylor Cardwell, Sierra Fields, and Rachel Rose 1st place in Experimental Design, Josh Vincent and Sammy Hanson 3rd place in Mousetrap Vehicle, Lauren Chism and Caleb Koostra 3rd place in Chemistry Lab, Lydia Barks and Lana Jennings 2nd place in Forensics, Sammy Hanson 2nd place in Trajectory and Sierra Fields and Rachel Rose 3rd place in Elevated Bridge. A total of 10 high school teams and 4 middle school teams competed in the competition. All 1st place winners qualify for the state competition at Western Kentucky University in April.
Congratulations BCHS Choir
The BCHS Choir took part in a two day festival and received 3 superior (distinguished ) ratings for all three ensembles. All three ensembles scored over 90 for their performances. We were given the sweepstakes trophy for the event and next year’s choir has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall with all the winners of this year's 4 week long festival in Nashville. We were the smallest school in the festival but what a great group of kids.
Bridge Building Competition
Congratulations to Trevor Howard and Kelsey Hood for placing 1st and 2nd in the regional level of BRIMS Bridge Building Competition!
Trevor received 1st place with an efficiency of 1168.72.
Kelsey received 2nd place with an efficiency of 939.93.
They will move onto the 33rd International Bridge Building Competition on May 1st, 2010. They will compete against 65 other regional winner! Good Luck!

WKU 30th Mark of Excellence Awards
On March 5th, Western Kentucky University held their 30th Mark of Excellence Awards for Newspaper and Broadcasting.
Nineteen Kentucky high school newspapers and 12 broadcasting programs from across the state entered the 2010 competition, with a total of 199 entries in 21 categories

HOSA on the Hill

BAND
The BCHS Band traveled to WKU to participate in All-District tryouts. These students make All-District Band: Jordan Evans, Zane Nevins, Trevor Cardwell, Michael Bratcher, Bradley Trent, Kayley Burden, (Chanda Hampton, Chad Cardwell, and Samantha Chamus Middle School students). These students made alternate: Lakin Ethington, Dakota Cumbee, Jordan Bryant, and Austin VanAxelson.
Scholarship Winners
Congratulations to Heather Jennings for winning the Prudential Spirit of Community Award at the local level. Her application has been forwarded to the state for consideration in the state-level competition. Also, congratulations to Madison Embry for winning the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Award out of the sophomore class. She will be representing BCHS this summer at the Hugh O’Brian (HOBY) Youth Leadership Seminar.
All-State Chorus

NJROTC
Congratulations to the NJROTC students! BCHS NJROTC competed against 4 other schools in a drill meet at Madisonville North Hopkins H.S., Saturday, and won 1st place in Physical Fitness.
Kentucky State Fair Board
Chelsea Daugherty was selected by the KY State Fair Board to be a youth advisory member. She was selected from young people across the state of KY and will serve in an advisory capacity to the KY State Fair Board. This is quite an honor. Congratulations Chelsea!

Saturday evening the BCHS Marching band took 1st place in percussion, color guard, and 1st Place in 2A at the 41st Annual Wildcat Invitational Marching Contest. Then for the 1st time in those 41 years at Franklin Simpson the Reserve Grand Champion went to a 2A school, BCHS! The last time that BCHS received this type of award was in 1998. We are very proud of our students, directors and the parents who have put in countless hours preparing for such events! THANK YOU!
STN

Congratulations to Haley Burden, Brittany Brooks, and Lyndzie Pharris.
BCHS students Haley Burden, Brittany Brooks and Lyndzie Pharris attended the Student Television Network (STN) camp in Kansas City July 26th – 31st. STN is an organization devoted to students interested in broadcasting and/or improving their communication skills. Students received training from professionals who work in the television, radio and print journalism industries. The primary focus is learning to, “Tell the Story” using audio and video. Students learned skills in videography, script writing, interviewing and editing techniques. Training sessions conducted throughout the week culminated in the “Big Shoot”. Students were paired up with other students from across the country and taken to the Country Club Plaza in downtown Kansas City. They were given 3 hours to find a story, conduct their interviews and shoot any necessary footage to complete the story. All three BCHS girls placed with Haley winning 1st place for her story, “The Segway Experience”. Lyndzie’s story, “Build Kansas City”, took second place while Brittany’s story, “Fear Takes Flight” placed third. Brittany also won first place for and editing assignment earlier in the week.
